This .9 mile loop is not your typical 4 corner Criterium - try 10! The course promises to challenge even the toughest and most skilled bike racers in the US. 21 12 Hours of Snowmass -Snowmass Village - 12 Hours of Snowmass is a benefit for the local non-profit youth organization Aspen Youth Center (AYC). It is an exciting twelve hour mountain bike race on Snowmass Ski Area. Riders may ride solo, in teams of two or three, or in an open team of up to eight riders. The intermediate course has great climbs, fun descents, and plenty of single track to keep everybody smiling, so ride it as a race, or ride it for fun.  For information, click here or call 970-544-4133.
23 Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers - Basalt Bridge Project - Basalt, Colorado: Saturday, June23 / 8:30am to 5pm. The old bridge across the Roaring Fork River near the 7/11 in Basalt has long been closed to vehicle traffic but is still a vital artery for pedestrians and cyclists. Help RFOV build some benches, platforms and planters to create a public space where one can enjoy the river on this great community project. 8th Annual Bridges of the Butte 24-Hour Townie Tour - This one-of-a-kind 24-hour bike tour loops through downtown Crested Butte, meandering across the town's bridges. Sign up solo and brave the bike seat for all 24 hours, or put together a team of your friends and tour the town in shifts as day turns to night. Tune up your townie bicycle and find a fabulous costume, because this is one townie takeover you don’t want to miss. Proceeds from the event go to the Adaptive Sports Center. 13-15 Master the Mass Snowmass Enduro - Master of the Mass, a new a four-stage, three-day mountain biking race in Snowmass is set for July 13-15, 2012.  This Enduro Mountain Bike Race includes a variety of terrain including a chainless downhill, cross-country, downhill and super-downhill stages. 21-22 Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers - Arbany-Kittle Trail - Basalt, Colorado: Saturday, July 21-22 / 7:30am Saturday, till 5pm Sunday. RFOV will continue their work to improve and sustain the interior of this extremely popular mid-valley trail. 9-12 Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers - 14er Project on Capital Peak, Thursday through Sunday, August 9-12, Mid-Valley, Team up with the Colorado 14ers Initiative for a long weekend to improve the trail and trail drainage on the route up to the peak from Capital Lake. 11 Basalt 1/2 Marathon - Race starts at 7:45am at the base of Ruedi Dam. Runners will take a bus to the start from Basalt Middle School at 7:00am. Race day sign-up begins at 6:45am to 7:00am. 18-19 Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers - Smuggler Mountain Trail & Restoration Project, Aspen: Saturday, August 18/ 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. This will be the third and last in the series of projects to alter the old road system in the recently acquired Smuggler Open Space.  Volunteers will work to both turn old double track roads into single track trails as well as closing and restoring some un-needed road sections.  The project will include native planting, seeding and other restoration techniques. 22-23 USA Pro Cycling Challenge Stage 2 - formerly the Quiznos Pro Challenge. This event is made up of seven stages, traveling through Colorado's most picturesque landscapes. 8 Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers - Anderson Lake Trail Restoration, Ruby Lake east of Aspen: Saturday, September 8 (camping Friday night)/ 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Help turn the old road up to Anderson Lakes into a new single track trail.  We’ll rip up one of the tracks and then seed, cover and bring in slash to bring create the new trail. 16 Pikes Peak Road Ascent on America's Mountain - Race starts at the Pikes Peak Toll Gate (7,750') and climbs up to Glen Cove (11,425') at an average grade of 5%-8%. 8am start. The race is a fully supported, competitive, timed event giving runners the chance to experience a section of the Piles Peak Highway which is closed to automobiles the day of the event, with the exception of official vehicles for the event and normal highway staff vehicles.  For more information, click here.

RFOV and our project partners will continue our efforts to eradicate the invasive Tamarisk and Russian Olive in our area. This year’s project will focus on the worst areas on the lower Roaring Fork River including 3 mile Creek, 4 mile Creek/Atkinson Ditch, and near Veltus Park.   Aspen Cup Nordic Race Series - The Aspen Cup Nordic Series is a five-event race and recreational cross-country ski series held in the Aspen/Snowmass area that emphasizes FUN and fitness for all ages and abilities, racers and non-racers alike.   Wednesdays Master's Racing Club  - Anyone interested in a rigorous workout will enjoy these sessions. Dedicated coach and Nordic racer Mike Trecker will lead an interval session and give technique instruction. Intermediate to advanced racers welcome. For more information, call (970-925-2145).

  Max Marolt Athletic Scholarship - This scholarship provides up to $1000 to athletes who are training in Aspen and competing or training at a high level of competition. The program seeks athletes who will make good ambassadors for Aspen while rewarding them for reaching a high level of competition. 10 Summit for Life Uphill - 5th Annual- In this exciting event, contestants race from the base all the way to the top of Aspen Mountain. They will climb 3,267 vertical feet – over 2.5 miles uphill and at night!  Racers can choose their own lighting and non-motorized equipment like snowshoes, skins or other creative gear. Town to Town Recreational Tour - Sorry CANCELLED due to lack of snow on mid-valley section of trail - Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers presents the fourth annual Town to Town Tour—the valley’s only non-competitive cross-country ski and snowshoe event—on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012. Starts at Rio Grande Plaza in Aspen then follows the Rio Grande for 8.5 miles to the mid-course start and waystation at Woody Creek and continues 10.5 miles to Basalt, where RFOV will host a party for all participants and volunteers. Shavano to the banks of the Arkansas River where whitewater kayaks take paddlers into downtown Salida for an exciting finish. Participants can compete as a team or individually.
