"Uncertainty on Ama Dablam's Southwest
Ridge"
by Ted

Mahon
and his
two
teammates,
as he
shares
photos
from
their
2008
expedition
to Ama
Dablam.
After a
dramatic
collapse
of the
mountain's
namesake
serac,
the
Dablam,
questions
and
doubt
about
the
safety
of the
routes
and the
likelihood
of
success
lingered.
The
popular
high
camp
used by
most
summit
parties
was
strewn
with
debris
and thus
deemed
unsafe
and
sections
of the
upper
route
usually
climbed
on snow
were
swept
clean,
with
only
blue ice
remaining.
Ultimately,
with a
little
luck,
perseverance
and
coordination
among
everyone,
the
climbers
prevailed.
Other
accomplishments
for Ted
include
summiting
Mt
Everest
in 2003
and
being
the
third
person
to ski
all of
the
Colorado
14ers.

Presentation
starts
at 7pm.
